Govt. College of Engg. and Textile Technology, Serampore, is one of the pioneer institutions in India in the field of Engineering and Technology. The college was formerly known as College of Textile Technology, Serampore and it was established in 1908.
The College situated on the western bank of the river Ganges at Serampore and 20 km, away from Kolkata, has always remained in the vanguard in imparting education in Textile Technology. To cope up the need of new technology in the millennium two new under graduate courses started in this college, B. Tech in Information Technology in the year 2000 and B. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering in the year 2001.
The institute seeks to create and enrich more prosperous sustainable society for citizen of West Bengal, the nation and the world by providing innovative solutions through research , consultancy and continuing education for satisfying current and future institutional and R & D needs. This Govt. institute is at present under the control of Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal and affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology and accredited to AICTE. The institute offers courses of study for:
1) Bachelor in Technology degree in Information Technology (Four years Course).
2) Bachelor in Technology degree in Computer science & Engineering (Four years course)
3) Bachelor degree in Textile Technology (Four years Course)
4) Postgraduate degree in Mechanical Processing of Textiles (Two year course)
For courses (1), (2), (3), each eligible candidate shall be required to appear for Joint Entrance Examination being conducted by the West Bengal Board of Examination for Admission to Engineering, Medical & Technical Degree Colleges. For course (4), students are selected through GATE.

Admission through written test and viva-voce. Priority is given for GATE qualified, Sponsored candidates and self-financed candidates may be admitted in the remaining seats.
